Matt Kyler graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2010 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He was a captain of the wrestling team in 2010 and Division 1 All-American in 2008. He is the winningest wrestling in Army wrestling history, with 146 career victories. He also holds the single-season wins record at West Point, with 43 victories during the 2007-08 campaign.

Since then, he has served as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army, holding a variety of leadership and staff roles throughout his military career. These included Mechanized Infantry Platoon Leader, Battalion Assistant Operations Officer, Platoon Tactical Trainer at Ranger School, Brigade Plans Officer, and most recently, Rifle Company Commander.

In October 2019, Matt and his family relocated to Charleston, SC. Since moving to Charleston, he has continued his service in the South Carolina National Guard (SCNG), serving in leadership roles both stateside and overseas. He currently works as a Quality Control Manager for Infinite Energy Construction. He has been involved with the Charleston RTC since May 2021.
